The speculations surrounding veteran Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara’s retirement from Test cricket took a turn after team skipper Angelo Mathews divulged that the former is still undecided on a particular date of hanging up his boots even as rumor mills claim that he will bid adieu after playing three more matches.

As per the reports that went viral earlier this month, Sangakkara had planned to feature in the ongoing two-match series against Pakistan, before considering the first match against India as his final swansong.

But, Mathews said that the southpaw is still in talks with the selection committee.

“Kumar has still to confirm his retirement plans,” Mathews was quoted as saying by Gulf News. “He was supposed to meet the press over the last few days, but he has not done that yet. I know he is still talking to the selectors.”

The 37-year-old Sangakkara had already retired from the shorter versions of the sport earlier this year.
