World Champions India have taken a commanding 2-0 lead over Sri Lanka in the ongoing 5-match one-day international series after the hosts pulled off yet another facile win in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Earlier, Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews won the toss and decided to bat first. The tourists managed to put up a competitive total of 274-5 in 50 overs’ quota. Mathews was the top-scorer with an unbeaten 92, whilst Kumar Sangakkara contributed 61 runs to the total.

For India, Akshar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav bagged two wickets apiece for India, while Ravindra Jadeja also earned a wicket.

Chasing the target, India lost Ajinkya Rahane (8) early on. However, a strong 122-run partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Ambati Rayudu brought the hosts on track, before the former perished after a well-made 79.

Rayudu, then, carried on with India’s stand-in captain Virat Kohli (49) to amass 116 runs for the 3rd wicket. However, Rayudu (121*) had ensured a victory by then, as India sailed for a comfortable win with 5.3 overs to spare and 6 wickets untouched.

By the virtue of this triumph, India have regained the number one spot in the ICC rankings.
