Team Australia kicked-off their preparations for the Ashes on a high after pulling off a lopsided affair against hosts West Indies in the first of the two-match Test series at the Windsor Park, Dominica.

Earlier, home captain Denesh Ramdin won the flip of the coin and elected to bat first. The decision, however, proved to be an erroneous one, as West Indies got bundled out for a paltry total of 148 runs in the first innings.

The hosts fought back with the ball soon after, reducing a sturdy Australia batting line-up to 126-6, before debutant Adam Voges (130) slammed a clinical century to thwart West Indies bowlers. Stitching crucial partnerships alongside Mitchell Johnson (20), Nathan Lyon (22) and Josh Hazlewood (39), Voges helped the visitors take a massive 170-run lead.

In the second essay, West Indies overcame an early debacle as both Shane Dorwich (70) and Marlon Samuels (74) scored patient half-tons. However, their contentment vanished before long after lanky speed-star Mitchell Starc (4/28) ripped through their batting order that ultimately collapsed for 216.

Needing just 47 runs to complete a serene triumph, Australia took just 5 overs to demolish a hapless West Indies side by 9 wickets to take an early 1-0 lead in the series.
