It takes a special effort to dismiss a star batsman!

Usman Khawaja did just that as he took a blinder to get rid of India captain Virat Kohli on Day 1 of the first Test match that began in Adelaide on Thursday.

Deployed at gully, Khawaja stretched to his left and held on to the fast-travelling ball with one hand before following up by taking a tumble.

Kohli, however, had himself to blame for his dismissal. The ball, coming off fast bowler Pat Cummins, was played way too away from the body, making him lose control and edge one behind.

Visiting vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane was also dismissed in a similar fashion off Josh Hazlewood.

As Ricky Pointing pointed out from the commentary box, “They are pretty poor shots, really, from top-order international players.”

Thanks to a fighting century from Cheteshwar Pujara (123), India recovered from 41-4 to 250-9 at stumps on Day 1.

For Australia, Hazlewood, Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon took two wickets each.
