VIDEO: Nazmul Islam performs naagin dance after dismissing Shikhar Dhawan at Asia Cup

So near, yet so far! That was exactly the case for Bangladesh in the Asia Cup final against India on Friday.

Despite opener Liton Das’ century, a middle-order collapse meant Bangladesh could only manage 222 runs on the board. India chased down the target on the last ball of the innings, denying their neighbours yet another title.

The disappointment notwithstanding, Bangladesh had a moment to rejoice. During the fifth over of the second innings, left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam dismissed Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. And what followed next, must have left everyone in splits.

Islam performed the naagin dance for a bit (for those unaware, that’s Bangladesh team’s victory dance, one may say).

Following Dhawan’s dismissal, Ambati Rayudu (2) too departed cheaply as India kept losing wickets after regular intervals. Needing six off the final over, they just about managed to cross the line on the last ball.

This was India’s second consecutive Asia Cup triumph.
