West Indies started to bat in 1st innings

Sri Lankan cricket team in current travelling West Indies. According to the ICC, they are scheduled to play a Test series against the local team West Indies. The official competition started in June, 2018 but ahead of the Test series, team Sri Lanka also played a warm up match. However, according to the latest news, team West Indies started to bat in 1st innings against Sri Lanka.

The Test series consists of three matches where the first Test between them started in 6th June, 2018 at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. However, Cricket West Indies wanted to replace one Test match with couple of ODI matches but before the inaugural Test, ICC declared that the series will be three matches Test.

Basically, Sri Lanka has come to travel West Indies after so long time. In April, 2008 the Lions visited West Indies first time. However, the last Test between them will be their first day/ night match which will take place at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown.

Earlier in 6th June, 2018 team West Indies won the toss and decided to bat first. They are the local team and know their ground very well. So, they have taken the right decision but against the Lankan bowlers what would they able to do is still questionable right now.

Considering the last news, team Windies is in bat for the first innings and they have successfully finished the first day. In the inaugural day, total 84 overs have been played where Windies team scored 246 runs in exchange for 6 wickets. Lahiru Kumara is a Sri Lankan bowler and took three wickets highest till now.

Opening statistics of West Indies was not good. Brathwaite and Smith started the innings but in 4 runs oper Brathwaite was gone scoring 3 runs so far. Smith was no better but scored 7 runs. In the 3rd wicket partnership between Powell and Hope, they added 40 runs. In 80 runs total three wickets of the local team was gone. Powell scored 38 runs so far. Team Windies started to lose wickets within a regular gap. Hope scored 44 runs and Chase scored 38 runs so far. Dowrich remained not out with 46 runs and his mate was Bisoo till the last of the first day. Besides, captain Holder scored 40 runs for the team so far. By losing 6 wickets team West Indies did not score very handsome runs. Excludng Kumara, Herath and Lakmal also took one wicket each for the Lions.
