Temples flared on third day’s play of the fourth Test match between India and Australia in Dharamsala on Monday.

Australia captain Steve Smith was caught on camera, apparently calling India’s Murali Vijay “f****** cheat” after the latter claimed to have taken a catch which turned out to be not out.

It happened when Australia were struggling at 137-9 and tail-ender Josh Hazlewood edged one off off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to Vijay at gully.

Vijay claimed to have taken it cleanly as he headed towards the dressing room. The umpires, however, were quick to call him back after replays confirmed that it kissed the ground first.

Television cameras soon shifted towards the visiting dressing room, where a disgusted Smith apparently had a cuss word to offer.

Despite the decision being overturned, there was little for Australia to cheer about as they were folded out for the same score of 137, setting India a paltry target of 106 runs.

The hosts were 19 without any loss at stumps. The series is currently tied up at 1-1.
