South African speedster Dale Steyn heaped praise on young Bangladesh sensation Mustafizur Rahman, comparing him with Pakistan legend Wasim Akram for his style of bowling.

Rahman, 20, has surprised one and all with his variations as he enjoyed a dream start for Bangladesh that earned him a place for the SunRisers Hyderabad at the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The southpaw continued his purple patch at the IPL as well, and by far, has been the standout bowler for his team, having 7 wickets from 6 matches at an impressive economy of 6.18.

“Mustafizur has got the skill set, X-factor Wasim Akram had. I wouldn’t say Mustafizur is swinging as much as Akram did but it is fantastic to see him bowl,” Steyn told India Today.

Opining on Rahman’s deceiving off-cutters that the batsmen fail to read more often than not, he added: “This guy is a left-armer and his cutters and pace changes are things that nobody has seen before.”

Interestingly, Mustafizur has cemented his place in the side despite a stringent IPL policy (of having a maximum of four overseas players) that has kept the likes of Steyn out of the playing XI.
