Zimbabwe’s World Cup Start with Victory

Zimbabwe won in their opening match against Hong Kong at Twenty ICC World Cup opening match. The new comer Hong Kong struggled with the same melody against Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe threw 159-run target to Hong Kong after batting first. Hong Kong scored 144 runs in fixed 20 overs. As a result Zimbabwe lifted 14-run win.

On Tuesday Hong Kong captain Tanvir Afzal invited Zimbabwe after won the toss at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Captain Hamilton Masakadza gave the team a great start at opening. He started with four and sixes. But he run out at 20 runs with 13 balls. After losing the skipper wickets Zimbabwe lost 3 more quick wickets.

Sibanda and Malcolm Waller’s (26) 61-run stand for the fifth wicket tackle the causes of the starting disaster. Vusi Sibanda took his maiden fifty. Sibanda’s innings was 5 fours and two of 59 runs from 46 balls. At the end of the Elton Chigumbura’s 13-ball 30-run innings give Zimbabwe total 158 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.


Hong Kong losing wickets at regular intervals to chase 159 runs in 20 overs from the start. However, one side of the fence opener Jamie Atkinson had just run down. At 108-run as fourth batsman Atkinson (44 runs off 53 balls) got out and Hong Kong runs slowing down. But Angshuman’s 13 from 8 balls and Captain Tanvir Afzal’s 31 runs in 17 balls was not enough to win. At the end of the scheduled 20 overs Hong Kong scored 144 for 6 wickets. As a result, Hong Kong loss the match by 14 runs.
