A decent batting performance from Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane amidst some lethal bowling helped India secure a draw against Australia in the penultimate Test match of the 4-match series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

Earlier, skipper Steve Smith’s superior 192-run knock helped the hosts cruise for a massive total of 530 runs in the first innings, before twin tons from Virat Kohli (169) and Ajinkya Rahane (147) helped India post 465 runs on board.

In the second essay, Australia amassed 318 runs before declaration and set a healthy target of 384 runs for the visitors to chase down within 70 overs, who ultimately managed to pull off the draw, thanks to notable contributions from Virat Kohli (54) and Ajinkya Rahane (48) again.

With the series already in their hold, Australia will now look to seal the series 3-0 when they lock horns with India in the fourth Test match in Sydney next week.
