Vijender Singh to fight Lee Markham for Commonwealth belt on July 13

Unbeaten Indian star Vijender Singh will trade punches with Britain’s Lee Markham for the vacant Commonwealth super middleweight title at York Hall in London come July 13.

“Indian star @boxervijender challenges for the vacant Commonwealth Title against @leebanjomarkham on the @MTKLondon show on July 13th. Should be a cracking fight!” Vijender’s UK promoter Frank Warren tweeted.

Both fighters will be coming off a pretty long lay-off, with Vijender’s (10-0-0, 7 KOs) last fight coming in December (beat Ernest Amuzu by unanimous decision), while Markham (17-4-1, 7 KOs) lost to Joe Mullender via split decision in June last year.

It’s a decent match up for Vijender, who, if wins, will perhaps take the next step towards a shot at world title. A loss, however, will dash all his hopes of fighting the biggest names in the division as Markham is not quite among the best.

As for Markham, who has fought some of the domestic bigwigs, will have to be at his best to keep the 2008 Olympic bronze medallist at bay.

Who you guys got winning this one?
