Kubrat Pulev has publicly spoken up for the first time since forcibly kissing a female reporter over the weekend.

Pulev, who has only lost once (to Wladimir Klitschko in 2014) in his professional career, grabbed Vegas Sports Daily reporter Jenny Sushe by the chin and planted a kiss on the lips while being interviewed post his win over Bogdan Dinu.

After being heavily criticiszed by fans on social media, the Bulgarian heavyweight opened up on the incident… making a stunning claim that they have been ‘friends’.

“You may have seen a clip of me kissing a female reporter following an interview after I won my fight Saturay night. The reporter, Jenny, is actually a friend of mine, and after the interview, I was so elated, I gave her a kiss. Later that night, she joined me and my other friends at my post-fight celebration. On the video, after our kiss, we both laughed at it and thanked each other. There really is nothing more to this,” read his statement.

Vegas Sports Daily, however, also released a statement, wherein they criticized Pulev.

“What happened to Ms. Sushe was completely blindsiding and unwarranted and we share in her shock, hurt, embarrassment and general outrage,” they said.

“We want to make it clear that women should feel safe and comfortable to exercise the duties of their job, free of abuse, advances, harassment, etc in the workplace.”

For those unaware, Pulev, 37, has been in a relationship with Bulgarian singer Andrea since 2006.
