Carl Froch vs James Degale

Carl Froch vs James DeGale could be next for the IBF middleweight title…..

It looks like IBF and WBA middleweight champion Carl Froch is getting backed in to a corner here. The championship IBF commission has ordered Froch to fight James DeGale in defense of his title, or vacate the belt for DeGale to face Andre Dirrell.

The champion last fought in a rematch with George Groves at Wembley, London in May. “The Cobra” knocked Groves out in the eighth round, but hasn’t fought again since.

Froch has been actively seeking a fight with can crusher Julio Cesar Chaves Jr., a bout which is likely not going to happen. “The Cobra” was hoping to fight the son of the legendary champion in Las Vegas, and has also said he’d retire if he couldn’t get it to happen.

DeGale would be a big fight in the UK, but is relatively irrelevant for the American market. JDG is currently 20-1, and sits in front of Andre Dirrell in the rankings.

If Froch does indeed retire, we’ll be seeing Dirrell vs DeGale for the vacated strap. Either that, or Froch will have to swallow his pride and we’ll see Carl Froch vs James DeGale, and then maybe a trip to Nevada for “The Cobra”.
