Deontay Wilder makes shocking prediction on Anthony Joshua vs Alexnader Povetkin

IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs) may be the heavy favourite to defeat Russia’s Alexander Povetkin (34-1, 24 KOs). But, not everyone thinks so.

Deontay Wilder, the WBC champion, has hit out at Joshua after their potential unification bout failed to reach an agreement over monetary reasons. And the American star has only one hope: a KO win for Povetkin.

Joshua and Povetkin are expected to trade punches come September 22 in United Kingdom in what would be a battle between two Olympic gold medallists.

The fact that Povetkin will be no pushover (he has only lost to former kingpin Wladimir Klitschko and has held the WBA belt in the past), seems to have spurred Wilder on as he backed the Russian to upset Joshua.

“I hope Povetkin knock him out. I really do,” Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs) told Brendan Schaub from Below The Belt.

Should Joshua continue his unbeaten streak, the Briton is likely to fight Wilder in April next year. But, it will only happen if there is monetary parity this time around, the latter insists.

“I’m done with it,” Wilder said of Joshua negotiations. “It gonna be 50-50 straight across. I’m not accepting no flat fees, no none of that. We done with that.

“When people see you trying, that’s all that matters. I can only do what I can do. I can’t make a guy get in the ring. It’s a curse being so good because although you’re at the top you still don’t get no opportunities.”
