Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (50-3-1, 32 KOs), the former WBC super middleweight champion, has set his eyes upon making a return to the ring.

The Mexican veteran was beaten all ends up in a 12-round contest by countryman Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in a catchweight 164 lbs contest in May last year.

And, the 32-year-old has a big name in his sights – Gennady Golovkin, the reigning WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight champion.

Chavez Jr, however, said that he wants a couple of fights before trading punches with Golovkin, who, notably, played out a controversial draw with Canelo last year.

“Names have been mentioned like Sergio Mora, Gabriel Rosado – fighters who have been ranked and have fought for world championships,” Chavez Jr told ESPN Deportes of his possible opponents, adding he wants Golovkin at 164 lbs.

“I would like to face [Golovkin], at my weight logically and doing two fights before that. I need to do two or three fights to reach the top of my physical capacity and be active to reach my best moment, and then grab a major fight – which could be Golovkin.

“I think if I take that fight, it would be to win it and not just to fight him.”

Bold prediction that!
